TMJ Referral Protocols

Due to limited consultation availability, TMJ referrals are currently only accepted if deemed suitable for a surgical opinion. General these are best referred by another specialist or if prior discussion has occurred with the referrer. It is mandatory that patients with TMJ dysfunction have undergone a course of non-surgical therapy prior to seeking a surgical solution.

A previous digital copy of an MRI would be extremely useful at the first appointment and would help rule in or out a localised jaw joint problem.

Please include details of pain history, functional difficulties such as eating and yawning, mouth opening limitations and present or absent joint sounds. It is difficult to accept referrals without this information.

General Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Referrals

I am happy to accept third molars, trauma and orthognathic referrals.
